Gorell’s Deception is Darker Than We Initially Suspected

The citizens of Ventura County are facing a crisis of governance that demands immediate and absolute transparency. As shared previously, for several years Supervisor Jeff Gorell has operated "Gold Team"—an unauthorized program masquerading as an economic incubator. This private political machine, fueled by the illicit use of public resources and taxpayer dollars, has already cost our community at least 3,000 vital biotech jobs.

The deception deepened with evidence of undisclosed financial maneuvers. Private payments tied directly to Gorell remained hidden until an FPPC whistleblower compelled a narrow inquiry. These "corrections" only surfaced under duress, revealing a pattern of non-compliance with state financial reporting laws. In response, a wave of Public Records Act requests has been launched to expose the full depth of this concealment.

While the law mandates a 10-day response to such inquiries, Gorell has met these legal obligations with nothing but calculated stall tactics and repeated delays. When our investigators sought records regarding potential Levine Act violations—specifically campaign donations appearing as "pay to play" schemes—Gorell’s office effectively gagged the truth, declaring documents off-limits until after the June 2 primary. This is a deliberate obstruction of the democratic process.

But the most chilling revelation has only just emerged.

We believe Gorell is operating a secret, off-book government via WhatsApp. By conducting official business on an unapproved platform designed for disappearing messages, he is systematically shredding California’s transparency laws and county policy. This is not a matter of convenience; it’s a strategic strike against public oversight, ensuring that incriminating evidence vanishes forever. Gorell is choosing to blind the public, hiding his actions within a digital vault where accountability goes to die.

The evidence presented here suggests a betrayal of the highest order. Jeff Gorell is a licensed attorney; he knows exactly how these actions undermine the rule of law.

This information demands immediate and rigorous scrutiny from Ventura County District Attorney Erik Nasarenko and the California Bar Association. The following pattern of misconduct can no longer be ignored:

• Public resources used for an initiative with no authorization

• Possible additional unreported behest payments

• Public records potentially hidden through delays

• Permanently destroyed records via off‑platform approved communication

• Professional misconduct

• Possible backdoor deals we’ll never know about

Ventura County residents deserve a government that operates in the light. When public business moves to private apps and records are withheld to influence elections, public trust is not merely damaged—it is destroyed. We call upon our legal institutions to restore justice.
