Democracy Dies in the Darkness: Why Is Jeff Gorell Delaying Public Records Until After the Primary?

You may know local blogger Anonymous Mommy recently delivered outstanding work exposing what appears to be diabolical and criminal behavior by Ceasar Morales, Ventura County Department of Education Superintendent. If you have not , you can find more details on her blog here and her Facebook page. Big shout out of appreciation to the amazing and talented Anonymous Mommy!


As these allegations have surfaced about Morales, we note they are eerily similar to those raised about  Ventura County Supervisor, Jeff Gorell. If we are incorrect, what is Gorell hiding? Why delay our PRAs for 90 days and conveniently after the primary this week if we are wildly incorrect? We strongly encourage you to decide for yourself and plan your June 2th election day accordingly. Democracy dies in the darkness, do not take your eyes off corruption, fraud, or bad actors. We certainly aren’t!

📄  Anonymous Mommy submitted a

PRA on 4/21 and received a partial response back on 5/22. (CA requires records be provided within 10 days. An additional 14 days may be added in unusual circumstances.

❌ 805Speakeasy submitted PRAs starting on 3/13. Gorell's office has delayed them until approximately 6/13 or later. (At least two weeks after the primary election.) (CA requires records be provided within 10 days. An additional 14 days may be added in unusual circumstances.

💸 Gave himself a bonus/stipend $15,750 in 2024, but did not seek legally required approval from the board of trustees.

🥇 Gold Team slides claim the cities of Camarillo and Thousand Oaks are partners. PRAs with the cities did not reveal any approval of these partnerships.

🌴 On the board of FCMAT which includes little to no traceable expenses for weekday trips to high end resorts in Napa, Palm Springs, and San Diego.

✈️ Gorell traveled to India as an office holder on donor dollars according to his 460. There is no public facing documentation of the breakdown of those costs. A PRA has been filed.

🚫 Admitted violating the law with his

2024 bonus/stipend. Acknowledgement was dropped at 5PM on a Friday two weeks before election day.

📱 Has been personally  named in one of many ongoing employment discrimination and retaliation in the workplace lawsuits with the County of Ventura. Of note, one filed in April 2025 that references Gorell’s illegal use of WhatsApp was pushed to a trial date of January 2027. Approximately six weeks after the November 2026 election. 

🏛️ Available contracts for his cabinet reveal awarded them and their spouses lifetime benefits. He did not seek legally required approval from the board of trustees.

❓ D and R (names redacted for confidentiality purposes)  both work in Jeff Gorell's office. They both support Gorell’s re-election campaign. Were they offered any benefits or favors for doing so? 

⚠️ Reportedly refused to address sexual harassment allegations reported to him in violation of a school district’s employment policies and procedures.

⚖️ Accused of wrongful termination for violating the Fair Employment and Housing Act. 

🚫 Reportedly engages in quid pro quo with employees when it benefits him to do so. 

🧩 Eliminated expert community members from boards and councils in favor of political appointees with little to no experience.
